Experience a 3 hours guided tour in the beautiful green archeological site of Ancient Olympia and museum. The tour includes a chance to view the ruins of the Temple of Zeus (Father of the Gods in Ancient Greece), the Gymnasium, the Altar of Goddess Hera, Where the Olympic Flame is lit every four years for the Summer modern Olympics, and the Nympaion. Your tour around this UNESCO World heritage Site, will give you a chance to see the Leonidaion (Monument to host the VIP visitors of the Olympic Games) and the Stadium which was designed to hold up to 40.000 spectators, who visited the place every four years for the Olympic Games.
Not far from the Archeological Site and through a park full of trees and plants there is the Archeological Museum of Olympia which was opened in 1982 and is home to an outstanding collection of statues and artifacts found in the cruise of excavation work. Among the museum’s most notable exhibits are particularly fine collections of beautifully detailed sculptures and bronze statuettes as well as numerous terracotta articrafts. The complex also includes a book shop and a souvenir shop, which you may also like to visit.
Opening hours for the site and museum from 08:00 to 20:00 every day til the end of October. From November to May is open from 08:00 to 15:00.
